Ensto - WLAN as service

Ensto is an international industrial group and family business, founded in 1958 in Porvoo by Ensio Miettinen. Ensto specialises in the development, manufacture and marketing of electrical systems and supplies. These are essential both in the distribution of electrical power and everyday electrical applications and monitoring systems. Established in 18 countries, Ensto is currently aiming to achieve an even stronger position as a competitive, global company delivering electrical solutions.

"We wanted to install a scalable WLAN solution at our new logistics centre in Porvoo which was both flexible and extended together with our business needs. Forte has proved to be a very agile and flexible partner, and they react quickly to our requirements. They have always delivered new services as agreed. Forte Managed Services have also fulfilled our expectations extremely well." JIM ERIKSSON / ICT-MANAGER / ENSTO

Family business with a strong international outlook

Ensto’s turnover is approximately EUR 210 million; it is part of EM Group which is a Finnish family business. Ensto employs approximately 1,400 staff in Europe and Asia in a total of 18 countries.

The Ensto Group consists of three business units operating under the Ensto brand: Ensto Utility Networks, Ensto Enclosures and Components and Ensto Building Technology. The company serves a multitude of electrical distribution and power generation companies, electrical utilities, network service providers, wholesalers, building developers, contractors, electrical designers and consultants, architects, OEM and industrial customers and consumers.

Ensto has developed its production and logistics capabilities by extending its operations in Poland and Estonia in order to prepare for future growth in these markets. Opening up a new assembly plant near St. Petersburg in summer 2007 is part of Ensto’s growth strategy in Russia, enabling the company to better serve its customers in local markets. In Russia, Ensto already has sales offices and warehouses in Moscow and St.Petersburg.

Better customer satisfaction via Forte’s WLAN

Forte Netservices has been Ensto’s service provider since 2002, when the first services were installed. The cooperation proved to be very positive, as it took only half the time to implement the service Ensto had expected. When outlining the Porvoo logistics centre, it was natural for Ensto to turn to Forte. Forte Managed Wireless Service was implemented to the logistics centre, a part of the larger logistics solution within the warehouse. Truck drivers have forklift computers for collecting product information which they receive electronically. Efficient logistics management at the central warehouse is an extremely critical aspect of Ensto’s business, as a major part of the consignments are delivered from there.

The new WLAN service saves employees’ time, but Ensto’s customers are the ones to benefit in the first place. As manual lists are replaced with forklift computers, customer deliveries are even more accurate than previously and the number of delivery claims has decreased.

Long term partnership with Ensto and Forte

Based upon the positive experiences at Porvoo, Forte Managed Wireless Service will be extended to the Keila office in Estonia. In the future, all the wireless networks will be introduced with service-based solutions using the same technology, whether they are used in production or in remote or office use.

Explains Jim Eriksson, ICT-Manager, Ensto, ‘We are not willing to invest in our own time developing and implementing solutions. Rather, we like to buy them as managed services. For us, partnership means a long term and deep cooperation with a few selected partners. In addition, Forte’s services incorporate our other values such as trust and creativity. We are happy to turn to Forte when we are looking for new solutions for Ensto.’
